Frequently Asked Questions
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Does the extra weight of Long Range Boost Fin affect performance? | The hydrodynamic design ensures smooth gliding with minimal drag, so you’ll only feel extra power, not extra weight. Whether surfing or paddleboarding, your ride remains stable, responsive, and effortless. The additional battery means longer sessions without sacrificing control. |
Why choose Long Range over the standard Boost Fin? | Compared to the standard Boost Fin, Long Range offers: • 2× the battery life for extended adventures • Longer ride time in powerful modes without overheating • Optimized design that may reduce drag in certain riding conditions* *Note: Some riders have reported reduced drag, but results may vary based on board type, riding style, and water conditions. |
Is Long Range Boost Fin compatible with my board? | The package includes a Longboard (US box) adapter. If your board uses a different fin box system, additional adapters are available separately to ensure compatibility with a wide range of surfboards and paddleboards. |
What does “180 minutes in Surfing Assist (Long mode)” mean? | In Surfing Assist (Long mode), Boost Fin Long Range can run up to 180 minutes. This refers to total session time, not continuous motor use. The system uses power only when needed (paddling, catching waves) to maximize efficiency. |
What happens if I fall off the board? | Because you wear the wrist remote (or have it attached), you can shut it off manually anytime. So you won’t have to chase your board. |
How much noise does Boost Fin make? Sharks? | The Boost Fin is virtually silent — tests show surfers paddling 3 ft away could not hear it. Regarding sharks, the device operates at ~30 MHz (30,000,000 Hz), which is well above frequencies sharks are attracted to (≈10–800 Hz). For extra safety, users can also wear a Shark Band. |
How do I control the Boost Fin? | The fin is switched on/off via a magnet and Hall sensors in the light-indicator area. Motor control is via a waterproof radio remote with two buttons: one for Short Boost and one for Long Boost. Pressing again turns the motor off. All parameters can be adjusted in the mobile app. |
What is the waterproof rating? | Boost Fin meets IPX8 waterproof standard (up to 10 m / 32′9″). All exposed parts are salt-fog resistant, and electrical connectors use rubber plugs. The charger port includes a diode to protect against reverse current. |
Important Boost Fin usage recommendations:
-
Install the propeller cover first, to avoid injury to yourself and others.
- Make sure to charge your Boost Fin fully right after you receive it. Charge the battery till it is full at least once a month, even if you don't use the fin.
- Always seal the charge port before riding.
-
Use a board leash in the water, to secure the board to you, to reduce the risk of injury to others.
- Fit a Boost Surfing Leash to secure the fin to the board, to avoid losing your Boost fin in the ocean.
- Wash your fin with clean water after every use. Salt and sand left on the fin, will reduce it’s useful life. Learn more here: https://boostsurfing.com/maintenance
- Never charge your fin if the charge port is wet. Make sure that the jack is fully dried before charging.
*Might not work with Carbon fiber boards
